SEO Is A Different Game Today

April 24th, 2011

Do you know what SEO is? If you have never heard of search engine optimization, then you probably do not have interest in internet marketing. But if you have an online business then you know that your internet income depends on where your website ranks on the search engine results pages.

You can take many steps to help your site reach the top rankings. You can, if you have the money to spend, hire someone to do your website optimization for you. This will be a good investment if the person doing your optimization can get you to the top of the rankings. But you can use software available on the internet, that will help you do your own search engine optimization for a fraction of the cost.

There are many software programs you can download and use to check your keyword saturation of your website pages. When it comes down to the basics of what catches the attention of the search engines, it is the keywords that you use and where you place them in your website content.

There was a time when website owners could flood their website content with keywords relating to their target markets. The search engines would then rank a site based on the number of keywords in the text. It then was a contest to see who could place as many keywords as possible in their website text.

But this was a bad result because people complained that the pages they were directed to by the search engines were not very useful. That is why today the search engines will actually penalize the websites that are saturated with keywords. They will list those websites at the bottom of the search results.

You do not want to penalized in this way. So make sure to use a software that will determine your keyword usage. This way you will have a better chance of being listed on the first page of search results. The criteria for search engine ranking is always changing, but keywords will always be at the foundation of search engine optimization in one form or another.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Why it is Important

November 28th, 2010

If you know anything about online marketing you know the importance of search engines - especially Google. For the last number of years Google has dominated the online search field. You cannot possibly be serious about online marketing unless you spend time getting ranked in Google. There are other search engines such as Bing, but for the purposes of explaining how the search engines work I will use “Google” to cover all of them.

Getting the search engines to drive traffic to your website(s) is known as Search Engine Marketing or SEM. By increasing your ranking in Google you will help to drive more traffic to your website. What does getting “ranked” mean? Getting ranked means that when someone searches for specific “keywords” or “terms”, your page, website or blog will pop up in the recommended search results. The objective is to get your website ranked on the first page of Google’s search results and preferably in one of the very top positions.

Research has shown that the first listings on the Google search results page get the vast majority of clicks and those clicks lead to traffic. Several strategies are out there that are effective in getting your website ranked high in the Google search results. The two main strategies are Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Link Building. There are also other strategies as well such as including email list building and incorporating video(s) into social networking sites such as YouTube and especially Facebook.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the first of the two main strategies that are used in getting your website a top ranked position. Search Engine Optimization is the process of selecting the most promising as well as most relevant keywords then making sure that those keywords show up in your website’s content in the most important places. Building inbound links or “link building” is the process of getting outside links to point to the content on your website. Link building is extremely important because inbound links are considered “votes” by other publishers and bloggers that your content is worth viewing.

The more your content focuses on your primary keywords and the more inbound links you have to your website the better your website will be ranked in the search engines. Since these strategies typically take a lot of time, effort and specialized knowledge it can be in your company’s best interest to use an outside source such as a certified internet marketing firm to maintain your high search engine position results instead of trying to do it on your own.
